Camera shootout

Meet Michael. He likes to take pictures at the square. Sometimes subjects are hard to find and photographers have to resort to shooting each other. If you have a giant magnifying glass you can see my reflection in his lens.

Dodger blue

When I met this man at the square, I was wearing my blue LA Dodgers shirt. He said I could take his picture, but he didn’t want to talk to me because he doesn’t like the Dodgers. This was hard to understand, because we were both wearing the identical color: Dodger blue.

Boring day . . .

Not much going on at the square today. Maitripa College sponsored the first annual “Portland City Sit.” Their mission was to increase awareness on the benefits of meditation, by providing a visible forum for square visitors. I was getting bored, and decided to go home, until I noticed three young men practicing back flips over one of the walls. Fortunately, I didn’t have to call 911, and they finally gave up. Maybe something interesting will happen tomorrow. Stay tuned.

Wow! Free ice cream and photo.

I need to be clear. This is not just any ice cream, it’s Ben and Jerry’s, and it’s free today, and tomorrow on the square. Plus, if you’ve never been on a farm, this is your chance to be photographed with two genuine dairy cows. You give them your email, and they send the photo online. An opportunity like this only comes along a couple of times in your entire life. Check the live camera at the top of the blog to see how long you have to wait for your ice cream. If there's no line, there's no ice cream.

Question of the Week?

A new person showed up today. Karen. She’s launching a project called “Question of the Week?” This week’s question: “What does it mean to "keep Portland weird?” The guy in the picture was her very first respondent. She plans to be at the square one day every two-weeks. Karen had 16 people answer the question. Good job! That took a lot of courage. You can hear the responses at:

Are you kidding me?

My first day shooting pictures at the square, a guy shows up I haven’t seen in five years. Jim Kenney. It was great seeing him after such a long time. We had a lot to talk about. I can see this is going to be a fun project.
