Bob Weber woke up on Sunday morning December 7, 1941, to the sound of machine guns and bombs exploding in Pearl Harbor. He had spent the previous night on the submarine base in the Pearl Harbor. Bob was the son of Joe Weber, a sailor from Shaniko, Oregon. At the time of the attack Bob was eleven years old, and had no idea he was witnessing the most devastating attack ever launched on the United States. His escape and eventual evacuation is an interesting part of history. Later in life he related the entire story to his wife Trinette. I met Trinette and her daughter at the NW Book Festival held on Pioneer Courthouse Square. They told me about the book they had written to honor Bob and tell the story of his extrodinary adventure.
