The Stanley Cup

The Stanley Cup is the famous trophy that goes to the winner of National Hockey League Championship each year. Thanks to Tom McVie (top photo), hundreds of Portland hockey fans had the opportunity to be photographed standing next to the Stanley Cup, at Pioneer Courthouse Square. Tom played for the Portland Buckaroos hockey team from 1961 to 1966. He was also a head coach in the National Hockey League for several seasons. Tom currently works for the Boston Bruins, the current NHL Champions, who are in possession of the prized Stanley Cup. The Boston Bruins let members of their staff borrow the cup and take it to a city of their choice to be viewed. Tom had the opportunity to take the cup somewhere, and decided to bring it to Portland. Is that cool or what! For a hockey fan, being photographed with the Stanley Cup would be a super thrill. A lot of hockey fans from our city are sitting at home tonight with big smiles on their faces. Thanks Tom, that was huge! Members of the Portland Winterhawks were on hand to sign autographes, and kids had a chance to sharpen thier goal shooting skills.
